My exchange 2007 transition notes goes below
Update the server with Service pack4
Enable Active Directory schema updation using Active Direcory Schema MMC but to enable the MMC pls run regsvr32.exe schmmgmt.dll
Make modification to Active Directory for Windows 2003 By running the scrpt
The run adprep /forestprep
adprep /domainprep
To run them use windows2003 CD in Windows 2000 PDC, goto i386 folder to get the adprep utility
Then Update the exchange with Service pack 3
Once everything is done
In the new server install the service pack 2 for windows 2003 this eliminates lots of hotfixes needed by the exchange 2007
From Schema Master Change the operational master to New 2003 server(pls remember to use mmc console to access Schema Master)
Change the mode of exchange 2000 in the old server from Exchange System Manager, Right click on First Organization and choose properties and change the mode to native 2000 from mixed
Next install .net 2.0
followed by hotfix for .net 2.0
Next install the power shell and that brings the needed updates for the OS 2003 bfore you start the installation of Exchange 2007.
For the Windows 2003 server to function as domain controller the forest/domain functionality has to be raised to Windows 2000 level else the exchange 2007 simply will refuse to install. But remember this change to active directory can brake the older NT Servers and win98 clients so be catious.
First raise the domain level functionality to 2000 Native using Active Directory users and Computers this is better done from the Windows 2003 server. But bfore starting exchange 2007 setup make sure you transfer the FSMO role from Windows2000 to Windows 2003
Then next step is making sure the new Windows 2003 server is a Global Catalog server functionality is assigned. This can be done using Active Directory Sites and Service tool in which you need to choose the option Global Catalog in the property window of NTDS Settings under the Servers option.
Make sure we have the IIS installed on Windows 2003 server but make sure you dont choose NNTP and SMPT as its componets
